The ISLAND of SKIATHOS
The island of Skiathos is located in the northwest Aegean Sea. Along with the islands of Skopelos and Alonisos, they form a group named "Sporades" which is widely known for its beautiful sandy beaches and green pine tree nature.
The main paved road runs all along the southeastern stretch of the island with several narrow dirt roads branching off towards the interior of the island and its northern coast.
Much of the island is wooded with Aleppo Pine trees and a Stone Pine forest named Koukounaries. The famous Skiathos biotope, is located at the western part of the island, containing an extended forest, a lagoon and a popular sandy beach.

The airport is located at the east side of the island and during the summer it welcomes direct flights from 20 European cities and from Athens airport twice a day.

The port of Skiathos is located in the town of Skiathos and during the summer, it is daily connected with the cities of Ag. Kostantinos, Volos, Mantoudi on the continent as well as the islands of Skopelos and Alonisos. For more information on the boat timetables click here.

Despite its small size, Skiathos has over 60, mostly sandy beaches scattered around the 44 km (27 mi) coastline. Some well-known that you shouldn't miss are: Koukounaries, Troulos, Banana, Asselinos, Lalaria, Megali Ammos, Vromolimnos, Mandraki and Agia Paraskevi.

Skiathos lifestyle THINGS TO DO
Apart from the renown beaches, inland Skiathos offers many very interesting hiking paths throughout the pine woods, along the brooks and on the hills. You will come across many ancient churches, the fabulous Monastery of Evangelistrias and just after reaching the north side, the ancient castle will take your breath away.
On the north side of the group of islands ‘Sporades’ you can visit the sea nature park, which is a protected area where the Mediterranean monk seal ‘Monachus Monachus’ live.
Music and dancing starts early evening at the fancy beach bars and continues well into dawn.
Numerous small and larger bars are scattered around the island offering moments of fun and pleasure.
